Challenge
The consulting firm had built their website 15 years ago on a CMS that was no longer maintained. Over the years, 800 URLs had been indexed by Google. The site had serious GDPR compliance gaps: no cookie consent, contact forms sending data over unencrypted email, and no privacy notice on downloadable resources.
Solution
We migrated the entire site to a modern static-site stack. Every original URL was preserved with a documented redirect map — no 404s, no lost rankings. We implemented a GDPR-compliant consent flow, encrypted contact form submissions, and added proper privacy notices to all downloadable resources.
URL Migration Strategy
Before touching anything, we crawled all 800 URLs with a site crawler and mapped each one to its new equivalent. Redirects were tested in a staging environment before going live. Google Search Console was monitored daily for the first two weeks post-launch.
Redirect Map Documentation
Every redirect was documented in a spreadsheet shared with the client. This served as both a technical reference and a compliance record for their data protection officer.
Results
The migration completed with zero ranking loss across all 800 URLs. The GDPR audit passed on the first attempt with no revisions required. Page load time dropped from 4.8 seconds to 1.1 seconds, and mobile usability issues flagged in Google Search Console were all resolved.
